Hello,
This is CHO from the ApparelX NEWS editorial team.
Today, I’d like to introduce you to a zipper that’s been gaining tremendous popularity in Korea — the WALDES zipper.
The WALDES zipper is produced by Asahi Zipper, a company founded in 1953 and well-known for its metal zippers.
It has grown under the hands of young engineers, aiming for high quality, and has continued to evolve into the refined product it is today.
Asahi Zipper is made up of a group of true zipper enthusiasts, handcrafting each zipper one by one.
Thanks to its small and elite team, the company prides itself on offering “small lot production, a wide variety of styles, and short delivery times.”
The most distinctive feature of the WALDES zipper is its vintage design.
Even the sliders have a vintage aesthetic, making these zippers especially popular among those looking to capture that classic look.

Many people inquire whether WALDES zippers are made with cotton tape.
WALDES zippers are available with both cotton and polyester tapes.
On our website, zipper product names are listed in the following format:
Size – Chain Color – Tape Material – Zipper Type.
For example, a zipper labeled 5 – AG – CO – OR means:
Size 5 – Antique Gold – Cotton tape – Open-end zipper.
If you’re looking for a zipper with polyester tape, look for products where the third part (CO) is replaced with E.
When ordering WALDES zippers, there are many aspects to consider—such as the tape color, chain color, and slider design—so it can be a bit overwhelming to figure out how to choose the right one, right?
To help with this, Asahi Zipper provides a web catalog on their website that anyone can download.
Although the catalog is in Japanese, you can easily view it by using a translation tool to read it in your preferred language.
As you browse through the options, many people find themselves getting confused again when it comes to choosing a slider. Since there are so many sliders listed in the catalog, it can definitely be overwhelming.
To explain the basics simply: “No.3” refers to a size 3 zipper, “No.4” to size 4, and so on—the number indicates the zipper size. So, make sure to look at sliders that correspond with the zipper size you’re using.
Also, have you noticed the ★ mark next to some slider names? This indicates that the slider is compatible with two-way zippers (zippers that open in both directions). If a slider does not have this ★ mark, it means it cannot be used for two-way zippers—thank you for understanding.
If you’re still unsure, we recommend checking out the slider section on our product page, where we’ve gathered all compatible options in one place. This can help you choose more easily.
I will also add a few product links.

We often get asked, “Don’t you have any fresher or more unique zippers?”
Of course we do!
Introducing the C-ZIP zipper.
Its chain has a very distinctive design, and since it takes more time to process than standard zippers, we recommend ordering with plenty of lead time.
However, the design is incredibly attractive, and if you’re interested, we highly encourage you to give it a try.
When I saw it in person, it left a strong impression—it quickly became one of my favorites.
Here’s a link as an example.

There was also the ZIN Zipper, but unfortunately, we’ve been told that it is no longer being produced, which was truly disappointing.
We really hope it will be manufactured again someday.
For your reference, we’re sharing a photo of it here.
When it comes to zippers from Japan, YKK is definitely the most well-known, but recently, WALDES zippers and many other unique zippers have been gaining popularity, which makes us very happy.
If you have any questions about WALDES beyond what we’ve shared today, please feel free to reach out anytime.
Wishing you a wonderful day!
Thank you
