ApparelX News editor team visited “YKK FASTENING CREATION for 2025” held at the Tokyo venue in Ryogoku on November, we had a lot of fun at the exhibits and hands-on booths where we were able to touch and feel new products and products that we usually don’t see.
This time, among the many new products, AparelX News would like to introduce the FLATKNIT watertight zipper!
Aquaguard® is a watertight zipper based on FLATKNIT®, which is a knitted tape with woven elements, to achieve lightness, thinness, and softness.
Compared to regular AquaGuard®, it reduces stiffness and is suitable for lightweight clothing for sports and outdoor activities.
It is not completely waterproof.
There were samples of regular AquaGuard® and FLATKNIT®AquaGuard® to compare!
The regular AquaGuard® film felt less filmy and more supple.
We were also able to actually see and touch the flower motifs in the comparison exhibit.
It is waterproof even if it is thin.
It wouldn’t be able to tell much difference from the outside, but the FLATKNIT®AquaGuard® zipper is definitely softer and more supple, so the folded part of the flower is more compact and easier to hold together.
The normal AquaGuard® zipper is more firm, so the bent part seems to spread out more easily.
The FLATKNIT®AquaGuard® zipper introduced up to this point is now available as a new product on ApparelX!
The color image in the reference material is the same as that of the regular watertight zipper, but FLATKNIT®AquaGuard® gives the impression of a softer color with less overall filminess.

While regular FLATKNIT® is often used for ladies’ items, FLATKNIT®AquaGuard® is recommended for sportswear/outdoor items due to its functionality.
For example, if Flatknit zipper was attached to a pocketable parka that can be folded compactly and easily stored.
